Madventures – My first take
Last night was the United States premier of Madventures on the Travel Channel. A Finnish television show that had received a cult following since its original airing back in 2002. Now its on stateside and my first impression of the show was good. The duo, who in truly low budget style, film and do all the episodes themselves as they travel to exotic locales. They make no attempts at being politically correct and have many scenes that could offend the light hearted but behind their eccentric behavior you can sense a deep appreciation and understanding of the world.
I guess the reason I found this show so unique was the honesty and the no-bullshit approach, similar to why I find Anthony Bourdaine so appealing to watch. Its the grittiness that makes it entertaining and that you feel like you are watching a person that you could relate to and not some highly edited figure. This is my first impression anyway so we will see if I happen to flip on the TV when they are on again. In the mean time, maybe one of my readers will see it on, and to those, I say, check it out.
